We’re offering live, online seminars each month, at no additional cost, to help cope with feelings of stress, anxiety, and grief, as well as other behavioral health issues, during these unprecedented times. Current seminars include:
Returning to School During the Pandemic
Making the decision
Assessing the risk
Living with the decision
Managing anxiety and fear
Parents around the country are making some very difficult decisions about whether to send their children back into the classroom. Others may have no choice due to work demands or school policy. For many families, this is a significant departure from the isolation or semi-isolation of recent months. Such decisions may be accompanied by anxiety, fear and emotional distress that have the power to reduce clear decision making. We are here to support you in understanding and managing these feelings and provide some techniques for making the decisions. We will discuss risk assessment and risk management, how to gather information on which to make a decision and use of a “Four Square” or “Pros and Cons” table.
Dealing with Grief and Loss During COVID-19
The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our lives in many ways including producing dramatic increases in feelings of grief and loss. Some of this comes from the direct effect of seeing friends and family die as the result of illness without the opportunity to mourn these losses in traditional ways that typically help us to progress through the bereavement process. Other non-death-related losses have also occurred as a direct or indirect result of the pandemic, including loss of sense of normalcy, loss of security, loss of milestone events, loss of social network and loss of sense of self. The typical experience of grief has become more complicated for many due to these changes. We are here to support you in understanding and managing these feelings.
Please join us for a conversation with Blue Cross psychiatrists Dr. Ken Duckworth, Dr. Greg Harris and psychologist, Dr. Alan Cusher to learn about these issues and resources accessible to you and your family during this time. You can also submit your own questions both upon registration and during the event.
Alan Cusher, Ph.D. is a Licensed Psychologist and member of the Physician/Psychologist Review Unit at Blue Cross with many year's experience in psychology/neuropsychology. He provides grief and loss counseling to individuals and groups in his practice in Shrewsbury and Jeff's Place Children's Bereavement Center in Framingham.
